Ulisi Photography

A collection of wildflowers, wildlife, wild birds and scenery

My name is Lorna Mason. My work, I call, Ulisi Photography. Ulisi is the Cherokee word for maternal grandmother. This title is the cornerstone of my life and my lens. Blending my Cherokee heritage with the rugged beauty of the western wilderness.

Based in the heart of Montana, I am a nature and wildlife photographer dedicated to capturing the raw, unedited beauty of wild animals, wild birds, wildflowers and everything in between. My philosophy…taking “anything God gives me” and finding a use for it. I have captured everything from wildfires to the delicate wings of a butterfly. To photograph the wild is to step into another realm. When I am capturing the intricate life of an insect or vast scenery, I am no longer an observer. I am part of their world, and it is such a quiet, authentic moment.

With the support and encouragement from my husband, I have been able to publish a few of my photos in great magazines, such as “Montana Outdoors”. See my Glacier Grizzly in this issue.

Glacier Conservancy will be showing one of my photos in the Glacier 2026 calendar.

As an “At Large” citizen of the Cherokee Nation, it was such an honor to be a part of the “Trail of Tears” juried art show.

A few of my photos are in various calendars sold in Hallmark stores, Staples, Walmart and Amazon.

I do love to donate my work to worthy causes for auction. However, much of my joy comes from sharing this passion with our grandchildren. Whether we are hiking through the woods, climbing a tree for a better view, or dressing up for a photo shoot dressed as historical figures, such as Lewis and Clark, Sacajawea, forest fairies and Montana cowboys and cowgirls. I strive to cultivate their love for the wilderness.

If you find yourself interested in a print for your home or a charity auction, please contact me.
